Carpet Runner in Biltmore Estates by FloorMaven.com
It’s funny what comes up in your facebook feed. In these trying times it’s often something you don’t want to see and you have to regrettably block somebody. Other times it’s something you agree with. In this particular case it was something totally unexpected. I’m scrolling through and I come across an article posted by AZ Family about a house for sale, actually an estate in the appropriately named, exclusive Phoenix, Arizona neighborhood of Biltmore Estates. This is not uncommon to see in my feed but I immediately recognized the house as one that I installed carpet on the dueling staircases in 2009.
The name dueling came about because they are mirror images of each other and remind me of an image of an old west gunslinger who had a Colt 45 strapped to each hip. If I remember correctly the product is from Couristan and flaunts a traditional floral/vine trellis pattern constructed using wool face fiber in a face-to-face wilton weave.
I installed the carpet over a 40 oz. synthetic fiber cushion from Leggett & Platt called Syntex. Each step was templated and custom cut to match the curved features of the staircase. A rope style edging from instabind was installed on site and I then reinstalled the customer’s brass stair rods as the pièce de résistance.
This is a nice little throwback for me, seeing my work still performing a decade plus later. Now if I were only talented enough to take those kind of quality marketing photos I wouldn’t need to be installing floors for a living. 🙂
